In February the Phalon-Sawaw Democratic Party, an Kayin ethnicity based political party which won some seats in both the national and state parliaments in the October 2010 elections, presented a parliamentary question in the Kayin State Parliament. PSDP State MP Min Aung Lin had 6 villages within his constituency which were mine affected. The inhabitants of the villages could no longer live in their homes and had moved to Myaingbwy. They wanted to know when the mines would be cleared so that they could return home. MP Min Aung Lin asked the government, when, and by whom could the mines be removed. The State Minister for Border Affairs responded that the mines in that area had been laid by the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), and that the DKBA would therefore have the responsibility of removing them. He further stated that the DKBA could request assistance on clearance from the Tatmadaw.
