Landmine victims get prosthetics, Weely Eleven, 9 May 2013
Article highlights a limited prosthetic workshop available the Myanmar Disabled People’s Organization in Sanchaung Township of Yangon.
MDPO states it will provide 50 artificial limbs this month to residents of Kyaukkyi Township through the generosity of a US church.
MDPO states that most of the landmine survivors in the township live in rural areas and receive their injury while “foraging for forest and jungle produce, collecting wood or bamboo or mushrooms or travelling”. This accords with the pattern of victimization revealed in the annual Landmine Monitor report on the country.
A landmine survivor living in the area requested that the mines be cleared.
