The United Nations Myanmar Information Management Unit (MIMU) has produced its 5th updated map of townships with suspected landmine hazard from Landmine Monitor 2016 data.
The map shows in shaded relief cumulative townships in which Landmine Monitor has discovered landmine contamination through casualty reports or other reports of mined areas, since 2007.
Casualty information on the map, indicated by an explosive icon, is for the year 2015 only (latest year for which data is available).
Landmine Monitor has found evidence of antipersonnel mine use in 60 of the country’s townshps. Heaviest contamination is believed to be in Kayin (Karen) and Kachin and Shan States, and eastern Bago region.
