A news report states that the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement (MSWRR) plans to set up a reserve fund for disabled people as part of the Disabilities Law enacted in 2015.
Minister U Win Myat Aye speaking before the Amyotha Hluttaw on the 29 January stated that MSWRR was presently unable to set up such a fund, but has provided some disability payments to a few disabled people from the ministry’s budget. During the current fiscal year, the ministry gave K200,000 (US$ 154) each to 54 people injured in landmine explosions in Kachin, Kayah, Kayin and Shan states, and provided K700,000 (US$ 538) to the family of the victim of a landmine explosion in Kachin State according to the Minister. It is unclear how these particular landmine victims were chosen.
