In the last report of her term, Ms. Yanghee Lee, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, reported to Human Rights Council in March 2020 that landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) continue to be used by parties to the conflicts resulting in killings and maiming of civilians. She reported that in January 2020 this resulted in atleast seven deaths and 32 injuries from landmines.

She expressed concern of the threat of landmines to returning internally displaced persons and refugees from outside the country.
