In late January 2023 Kyaw Htet, the Chairman of the Karenni Democratic Front, an anti-military armed group claimed to have removed more than 700 landmines laid by the Myanmar Armed Forces near Kyun Taw village. The village sits on the road which runs between Demoso in Kayah State and Moe Bye in southern Shan State. He said the Karenni Democratic Front had suffered more losses due to landmines than during battle with the Myanmar Armed Forces.
Church burned down in northwest Kayah State was reportedly unable to be repaired by villagers due to heavy contamination by landmines.
