UNICEF data shows three fold increase in landmine/explosive remnants of war (ERW) in the first 3 months of 2023 compared to 2022.
UNICEF has recorded about 100 casualties every month in the first 3 month of 2023, compared to the 33 casualties per month during the same time period of 2022.

According to UNICEF data over half of the landmine/ERW casualties in the first 3 months of this year occurred in 2 regions- Sagaing and Bago. The townships Kyaukyi in Bago and Kanbalu in Sagaing registered the most incidents during this time period. Fewer casualties were children in 2023 at 20%, compared to 37% in 2022 during the same time period.
