Antipersonnel landmines manufactured by the Defence Products Industries of Myanmar, have been found in photographic images among other weapons captured from the Myanmar Armed Forces, on a regular basis since 2021.
Media photographs of mines captured from Myanmar Armed Forces troops have been posted from most States and Regions of the country (see previous posts regarding captured antipersonnel mines in Mine Free Myanmar in August 2025, June 2024, September 2023 and December 2022)

In a non-exhaustive review of media photographs, in 2026, Mine Free Myanmar found MM1, MM2, MM5 and MM6 ap mines, manufactured by the Defence Products Industries of Myanmar (KaPaSa), among other captured weapons shown in media reports. For example In July 2026, the Yaw PDF in Saw township of Magway Region captured dozens of antipersonnel landmines of all 4 types. In May 2026, the Karen National Liberation Army captured atleast 20 MM2 and MM6 type mines in Tanintharyi township of Tanintharyi Region. Also in May 2026 a coalition of People’s Defence Forces in Myaing Township of Magway Regions captured dozens of antipersonnel landmines of all 4 types (pictured). In February 2026, a coalition of People’s Defence Forces captured MM5 and MM6 mines and many anti-vehicle mines in Kanbalu township in Sagaing Region.
Previously, Myanmar government officials have acknowledged ongoing landmine use by the country’s Armed Forces. In July 2019, an official at the Union Minister Office for Defence told the Landmine Monitor that landmines are still used by the Myanmar Armed Forces in border areas and around infrastructure. Also previously the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Myint Nwe, told the Myanmar parliament that the army continues to use landmines in internal armed conflicts.
In its regular review of media photographs by Mine Free Myanmar since January 2022, over 80 instances of captured antipersonnel mines were identified. The mines within the pictures now amount to many hundreds of antipersonnel landmines, types MM1 ( stake mounted fragmentation, POMZ2 variant), MM2 (blast, PMN variant), MM5 (directional, claymore variant) and MM6 (non-detectable blast, M-14 variant), as well as KaPaSa made anti-vehicle mines (plastic, VS1.6 variant). Over that time period, mines identified were in images from captures in Chin, Kayah, Kayin, Magway, Rakhine and Shan States and the Bago, Sagaing and Thanintharyi Regions.
The photographic reports of antipersonnel landmines seized, were captured by Ethnic Armed Organizations, or National Unity Government affiliated People’s Defence Forces. Most were obtained in military actions overrunning Myanmar Armed Forces outposts or after capturing/ambushing a Myanmar Armed Forces patrol.
